ONA is the professional association for all registered nurses in Oklahoma. It is a community of nurses across all specialties and practice settings working to promote the profession of nursing. This community of nurses is working to address the issues that face nursing on a daily basis, as well other issues of importance – nurse-force numbers, workplace safety, standards of care, scope of practice and patient safety. ONA focuses on practice, educational, political and professional issues that impact registered nurses in Oklahoma. ONA does this for you by focusing on YOU!

Strengthening the Voice of Nurses

ONA is a powerful political advocate. As an experienced nurse, you know and understand professional and practice concerns, as well as the reality of nursing workforce issues. We actively support legislation to advance nursing practice, provide guidance on new laws impacting nursing and health care, as well as educate lawmakers and other policy makers about nursing priorities. With a resounding and knowledgeable voice, you can speak with the entire community of nursing through the Oklahoma Nurses Association. This voice is especially important when we lobby for laws that protect health care workers and patients. It takes all of us—a grassroots lobbying network, our lobbyist at the state capital and our member-funded political action committee. We all work together to gain support for ONA’s legislative platform. As a member of the ONA, you will have an opportunity to become active in the legislative process.

Developing Every Professional

Professional development continues throughout your career. Our goal at ONA is to promote education, advocacy and mentoring to advance professional practice and influence the delivery of quality care. ONA provides valuable links to education such as region, state, and national continuing education opportunities. ONA members receive cutting-edge information, resources, and opportunities to develop leadership ability.

Protecting Nursing Practice

ONA works to ensure that nursing priorities are incorporated into legal and regulatory decisions. We understand what’s important – issues such as oversight of scope of practice, appropriate use of unlicensed personnel and the impact of managed care. ONA safeguards and promotes licensure, credentialing, and the right of the profession to define nursing practice. Because ONA promotes the highest standards of nursing practice, our members gain free, unlimited access to our workplace consultation service.
